2009 USATF Youth Hammer Throw Training GrantsSince 2005 more than $16,000 in the USATF Youth Hammer Throw Training Grants has been awarded to 16 boy and 14 girl youth hammer throwers from 12 to 17 years of age. Awards are determined by a three-person selection committee's review of the applicants' three-page application form which requires training and competitive statistical information, a brief essay describing his/her hammer throwing goals, and a letter of support from the applicant's coach/parent. For the 2009 season 14 girls and 8 boys applied for training grant assistance. Seven girls and seven boys were awarded training grants totaling $6,300. All donation proceeds from approximately 100 individual contributors' support the USATF Youth Hammer Throw Grants Program and the distribution, through DVDs, of hammer throw coaching information and strategies for youth coaches.
