Meet Report
EUGENE, Ore. - The crowd knew from the start of the competition that this was Koji Murofushi's (JPN)_ day. Koji opened up with a first round throw of 81.74m and that was only the start. None of his remaining legal throws were under 82m. While the Asian record holder failed break through with a personal best, he showed his trademark consistancy with an average of 81.22m over his five legal throws. His best effort came in the third round as he threw 82.65m, slightly improving his season best and overtaking Adrian Annus for the second best mark in the world this season.
James Parker (USA) also came through on his final throws inch ever closer to the Olympia 'A' standard. Parker was sitting in just fourth place entering the fifth round. He opened up with a solid 74m throw followed by three fouls. Parker found his technique in the fifth round as he unleashed a personal best of 77.78m to move into second place. In the final round he also had another throw over 77m. Parker's mark improved his personal best nearly half a meter and puts him within a meter of the 'A' standard of 78.65m. Fellow Americans Kevin McMahon and Michael Mai had sub-par days. Mai, while disappointed in his performance, was able to reflect positively on her performance by saying "It's good to know that I can throw 235' on a bad day."
